Pollstar Awards Host Takes The Cake

You told us what you wanted in an awards show host: a television celebrity who’s also a comedian that knows a lot about baking and magic. We heard you; we’ve got you covered.

When the 28th annual Pollstar Awards arrives at The Novo (formerly Club Nokia) in Los Angeles Feb. 2, it will be under the control of television personality Justin Willman, who’s not only the host of “Cupcake Wars” and “King of Cones” on the Food Network but also “Win, Lose or Draw” on Disney Channel.

We are delighted to temporarily divert a bit of the spotlight to the behind-the-scenes professionals that toil in the background to make the live music business a success.

These are peer-voted awards from the international readership of Pollstar which is why they are revered by booking agents, talent buyers, venue managers, and tour crews.

The awards show is a live, unrehearsed, and non-televised event with an open bar and a schmooze-level that is off the charts. You can always expect surprises as in past years when the likes of Taylor Swift, Prince, Brad Paisley or David Hasselhoff dropped by.

A ticket to the awards is included with each Pollstar Live! registration.

Gary Owen

The Pollstar Awards has featured a variety of celebrity guest hosts from Bobcat Goldthwait, the Blues Brothers, Kevin Nealon, Lewis Black (four times!), Lisa Lampanelli, Kathleen Madigan and Chris Hardwick.

Comedian Gary Owen, who has appeared in several films and three Showtime specials, hosted the 27th Annual Awards at the Masonic in San Francisco.

A veteran of comedy stages for over a decade as well as a Navy vet, Owen took up comedy while serving in San Diego and was named “Funniest Serviceman in America.”

Even more impressive, the blond-haired, blue-eyed Owen was also named the “Funniest Black Comedian” in San Diego, and was declared “Black America’s Favorite White Comedian” by Ebony.
